What is the Philosophy you mention "has been engrained" in American teachers? Non american listening here 😉

Hi! American teachers are taught that reading comprehension is a general skill that can be taught through strategies, not a build-up of knowledge--though that is slowly beginning to change!

There's been a lot of debate about this! I'd recommend reading "How Can Educators Teach Critical Thinking?" by cognitive scientist Dan Willingham. He said the positive effects for teaching critical thinking for general transfer aren't great according to research, but increasing students' knowledge about different subjects increases their ability to think about those things (history, science, etc.) https://www.aft.org/ae/fall2020/willingham
