There's something about curated independence that doesn't sit right with me. True independence cannot be regulated or overseen.
My parents left their children to their own devices, interceding minimally as they found necessary. Not surprisingly, I've done the same with my kids.
I do think that anyone can fare better in this world, if they presume to be their own agents and do not feel they must count on some authority to see to their problems. There is the old saying, "If you want it done right, do it yourself." When it comes to making your own life, that is far more than just a parable.
